My Jeep hates me. This morning I took it to fill up the gas can for the mower. Ran fine, had it up to 55 on the way back. Mowed the lawn. Cut the exhaust pipes and put the 90° bends on. Time to try it out, hit the key no dice :madwife:
Turns over but sounds sluggish. Ok, fuel or ignition? Pull the air cleaner hit the key fuel spilling out into the intake. Now at this time I should have known better. The Holley bowl levels I had long since ironed out. Stupidly I start messing with the float levels. Then way low wouldn't run. Half a turn fuel everywhere...pull the plugs, spin the cylinders clear. Pull the primary bowl one tiny POS speck. Clean it all, dry set the float and reinstall. Crank with the coil pulled fine tune the float. Reconnect coil wire. Massive carb backfire. Check firing order and put plug wires where they belong  Runs on choke, choke off won't idle. Face palm emoji. Fuel pump on it's way out, no filter between pump and carb ( lesson learned) POS from diaphragm screwed the needle seat hence the overflow.
AutoZone nada, Napa nada ( guy almost convinces me into an electric pump) Advance tada! Have it for you 8AM tomorrow. Gonna get some new plugs too. Fall color tour on!

I like my electric fuel pump. It really saves the starter and battery.

This is about where I've been with my carb and ignition "improvements" on the '71. Finally making some headway. But yes, you need a filter after the pump! Ideally one before it too.

Today's CJ progress. Brake master Cylinder on but not hooked up or bled yet, pedals hung, clutch adjusted, tub wiring harness laid out and partially hooked up, heater/fan box, fresh air vent and drain line in, tail lights installed, e brake pedal hung and hooked up, hi beam switch in and hooked up.

Also ran down to a nearby town and picked up an OEM windshield for the new frame.

Got it out of the garage and set the cage in, still need to get some backing plate built up and move to final position. Also noticed that Jeeps aren't the only ones who mark there territory. Left over from my old 914 (sold to buy the Jeep)

Picked up a new fuel pump this am. 60+ topless miles racked up today. Ran like a champ, had it up to 55 a few times. Really nice on good roads. I've got the tires at 25lbs. On lesser roads takes alot of input can't tell if the tread pulls it around or if it's darting with the bouncing around  knuckles got a little white a time or two gotta keep the speed down on rough roads. Anyone got any ideas? 1" shorter pitman on order.

Glad you got it running right. Do you have a steering stabilizer?

I know you have 6 degree caster shims on it. Did you check the final caster once it was all together and sitting on the ground?

Mine tracks well except on the road in front of the scrap yard. It's all over the place there since the road is degraded and was not built for heavy traffic but constantly sees overloaded trailers. I thought it was the jeep for the longest time since the Flex isn't affected but the short Chevy Trax was also all over that road.

More and more.... Everything was fine yesterday. Occurs to me I topped the tank off shortly after we headed out. I'm wondering if the cheap Sheetz fuel was loaded with ethanol driving the boiling temp down. Fuel lines are not terribly warm. One tight spot where the line snakes under the distributor and a filter before the carb. I'll reroute that but I'm blaming crap gas. Gotta be the simplest thing.

You gotta drain that tank and put the gas in something else asap.
