I have just reciently purchased a 1964 CJ5a Tuxedo park IV. I am looking to upgrade the Motor, T-case, and trany. I would like to put a v6, t-18 four speed, model 18 t-case, and a warn overdrive. Is this a possiable swap out for this jeep. What else do I need to do a swap like this. What would I have never thought of doing a swap like this. Does anyone have any of these parts. I am Pittsburgh PA. Is there anyone local that wouldn't mind lending a hand or some advice that is local to me.

Also a quick steering question there is a lot of plat in the steering wheel I am in the middle of replacing everything from the steering box forward to the knuckels. Does anyone have a steering box that will fit this jeep that I could buy. I would rather do a rebuild on that at a bench where I can take my time and still be able to drive my jeep. Any other sugestion on what to do to get rid of all the play, oe am I on the right track.

thanks for any help you can give me here,

    Justin

    Justin,

Welcome aboard. We have several members in the Pittsburgh and surronding area.

I am also a Tux owner and you will find that there are several on this board. Since Tuxedo Parks are a limited edition, my first question would be what is your reason for not keeping it stock? Does it currently have the 4 cyl and you want to upgrade to 6 cyl? What is left of the Tux options? You can search here for lots of discussion on Tux's. Does it still have the column shift, 60/40 seats, extra chrome, etc.? Or is it simply a jeep that just so happens to used to be a Tux?

Utimately it's your jeep and you can do what you like. You'll hear lots of opinions either way.

If you give us a little more background and what you're goal is we can give you more specific advice.

    Beth

Welcome Justin from a nearby Tux owner in Ohio. :)

On the steering box, are you certain that's faulty? If there's alot of play in the steering, just have an assistant turn the wheel back and forth and pinpoint the "slop" and address it. You may find that you don't need to replace everything.

Are you in Pittsburgh or a suburb? There's several folks here from around the city.

Welcome from another Pittsburgher, Justin! Depending on which box you have, I may be able to help you out. I just rebuilt mine completely before deciding to bite the bullet and do the Saginaw swap. Drop me an email if you are interested.

Oh, and fill out your profile so folks know where you live. You might be surprised at how many eJeepers there are out there!
