Hi guys . Need some advice , if you can . My 63 CJ5 has a 56 M38A1 F-head engine in it. My question is , does anyone know what single belt application water pump would fit in place of the double pulley one in it now ? Mainly concerned with belt alignment , and pulley diameter . Thanks

I would think you probably could swap pulleys, with a puller and a press. The pump itself ought to cross with CJ5.

Slightly unclear what the issue is. If the military double pulley is working now, why not replace that in kind?

Main problem is availability . All auto parts stores list for CJ 5 , but have no listing at all for M38a 1 . And I mean for all parts , not just a water pump . Online jeep specialty sites do list , but charge an arm and a leg , and , then there is waiting for shipping . I've been an auto partsman for 38 years , and just hate to pay retail for parts .

Need engine pulley and generator pulley to match also, unless you already have them?

Just a follow-up question . The reason I want to replace pump is , after removing it to do other service work ( it did not leak before ) , I reinstalled sealing it good , and with a new gasket . The leak seems to be coming from around the mounting bolt closest to generator , right side of engine . Question is , does bolt go into water jacket , and I should have put sealer on bolt threads , or are they blind holes ? Thanks again all !

If I remember right yes you need sealer, they aren't blind holes. Start removing a bolt before draining any water and you'll find out for sure. :coffee::)
