Knuckle Help

    While doing my brake conversion I noticed my driver side front axle shaft has ball bearing compared to my pass side with a U-joint. Doing disc brakes and power steering will this hinder my goals or does it not matter. Help on this would be great. If I have to replace my shaft can I remove it without disassembling the knuckle?

    Spicer axle on one side & a bendix in the other- won't hurt anything as long as you respect the more restricted max turning angle of the Bendix- see the FSM for details.

    More traction puts more strain on the axles. I don't know if the Spicer or Bendix is stronger, but the axles are definitely weaker when the wheels are turned. So don't pin the front tires turned hard against a big rock and give it the gas. Pop!

    I talked to shaun on the phone. Sounds like he has a D25. He's just replacing the drums with discs, there shouldn't be any issues with that...right? His intentions are mild use, mostly around town.

    Thank you all. Put brakes and hubs back on. When bending through washer around nut, what tool works good. Without purchasing new tools.

    I just tap a straight screw driver under the washer with a hammer to get it up a little then squeeze it to the nut with pliers.

    I'm going to ga ahead and switch the axle out with a U joint instead of ball bearing. Can I slide the axle out of the knuckle or is there a lot more to it.

    That's all there is to it.

    Double check the steering stop bolts afterwards to make sure you're taking advantage of the greater turning radius the spicer axles allow.
