Did you use any sealant around the outside of the seal?

Is the area where the seal rides on the yoke nice & smooth & shiny or is it discoloured/pitted?

Did you put RTV on the splines of the yoke and thread sealer on the bolts?

Guess I have to get under and look. I did not do it. Seals are cheap enough I can do it again. Give me a quick rundown of what I should do and I'll do it. Thanks

So I pulled the fill plug just to see if it needed a top off! Oil poured out. Guess she may have been a touch overfilled!!!!

If it's a mystery how it got so full, check your trans level. That's where the extra oil may have came from.

Read up, all of this has been covered before about sealing up a transfer case and if you fill the tranny and transfer case, after a bit the TF case ends up being about 1/2 inch overfilled. Just how it works on these old buggers. The fill holes aren't at the same level and they share the lube.

One stupid question.....can I replace the seal with the case still in the jeep. I am pretty sure I can just making sure. Looks like 4 bolts for the drive shaft, one nut for the drum. Then I should be able to see the seal on the output shaft!!! Thanks

Be sure the RTV you use is oil resistant (not the red RTV).
