I've been searching, again, here and on the web for almost 2 hours looking for set up specs for the Dana 27 and Dana 44. Is this some sort of secret information shared only by those in the business? I found information but, much of it is inconsistent. For example: Dana 44 pinion depth. Some say 4.312. others say 2.625. Pinion preload. One place says 20-40 inch pounds while another says 10-20. Same with pinion nut torque specs.

What gives? What am I missing? I'm getting very frustrated trying to get this figured out. Every time I've researched this, the same thing happens. Varying information. It should be very simple to find a correct chart for any differential. My forehead is bleeding just trying to find the correct info for the 27 and 44.

    Edit:
I did find this list for Dana 44, which is exactly what I'm looking for, less a pinion depth. Are these good numbers? This list explains the preload differences I was running into anyway. Where's the same list for the dana 27 I wonder.

    Cover Bolt Ft. Lbs. 28-33
    Ring bolts 45-60 ft-lbs (lubricated)
Pinion Brg. Preload (new) 20-45 inch-lbs
Pinion Brg. Preload (used) 10-20 inch-lbs
    Pinion Nut 200-220 ft-lbs
    Ring Gear Backlash 0.006" - 0.010"
    Carrier Cap bolts 70-90 ft-lbs

Keep in mind that you are setting up two different axles. What is right for a D44 isn't the same for a D 27. Work on one at a time
