Hood To Windshield Safety Catch

Ok guys. The long "finger release" to the top of the windshield...? seen the catch mounted both ways but which is the original way from the factory. Here is a pic of mine.

Here is mine on a 58. Not sure if ever changed by a PO.

 

Military manual shows same - hook up, finger lever down.

 

Thanks guys! Did they decide to ever change it? for the cj's. Been looking at more pictures on the Internet and it's like 50/50.
What to do......

 

I was just looking at another thread now (what bikini top to use) and saw that the safety catch had the finger in the upward position. I'm confused...

 

Flipped the safety latch so the finger is in the downward position. It engages automatically when you raise the hood to the windshield. Thanks for helping me out
