T90/D18 combination isn't too difficult. I removed the transmission floor cover to expose the bell housing bolts, used an engine hoist with a strap through the exposed opening in the floor, and lowered it down to a creeper to pull out from under the Jeep. Removing the cross member, skid plate and shift cane before dropping it helps and is simple to do. I also put the rear of the Jeep up on jack stands to give me a little more clearance underneath.

If you don't have an engine hoist but access to an ATV jack it's probably even easier.

i just went through this, I dropped the tranny/xfer down with a come-along. I've done it with a floor jack before but I find the winch is easier.

I found it easier to put it all back one piece at a time.

Or you can pull the transfer case off the transmission by hand, then pull the transmission, by hand. No jacks or straps needed. This is an option if you don't have a transmission jack.

I have done it this way before. You can man handle the T-90, its not too bad. You can look up the weights of the transmission and the transfer case and see if you can handle it in pieces.

I'm 35 and fairly strong so I hope I can do it that way in my driveway without buying more tools.

Another thread got me thinking about tooth count. Is there any way to check the flywheel's tooth count without getting full access to it?

Before you try to drop the transfer case, Google search how to wire the gears of the transmission in so that the transmission shafts don't seperate. Simple little step to save a lot of time.

I have found it easiest to remove and replace the whole assembly at once. Bellhousing, transmission, t-case and crossmember with skid plate still attached using a good floor jack. The skid plate is easy to wiggle around on top of the pad of the floor jack plus you can roll the jack a little too. It just takes a bit of caution to balance it but no matter what you do you have to be cautious anyway, and this saves having to pull the t-case. Just pull the top off of the transmission and the t-case shifters for clearance.

I agree. I was just suggesting the other approach if the OP didn't have a jack. ;)

No doubt without a floor jack that would be way too much to try to manhandle. :D
