I'm going to start the rebuild with the best of the two I own first. I have put a 2 year goal without a minimum dollar cap on what needs to be spent to bring these the first one of these gems back to their former glory as correct and pure as possible.

I don't know if I have the patience to start and contribute to a thread on my progress but will try to post up more info from time to time. And I'm sure to have a bunch of questions along the way.

They both will live again. I hope to not scavage parts from to the other. The orange one is a tad bit rusty and the yellow one will have far less rust work to deal with.

I like the fenders on the orange one...Most cut jobs don't turn out as good.

The drivers side fender is far worse. And several areas in the tub will take some serious work to be put back correctly.

It is just me, but I would have just driven (drove?) the yellow one.

Nice Jeep to start with. Is that a crack in the frame over the right rear axel? The frame looks solid though. Ask questions, these guys know everything on this forum.
Be careful when buying re-popped parts, some are not as good as they look, I learned the hard way. Have fun with your hobby.

The yellow one was partially disassembled when I bought it. A lot of bits and pieces are missing. What attempt the PO did make in repairs were shoddy at best only to let it sit outside in the elements and go bad or continue to get worse.

I'll have to look at that. I think that is a black zip tie sitting on the frame, but it sure does look like a crack to me too. I hadn't noticed any cracks or repairs but haven't got down to detailed inspection yet.

That's what my first intention was with the yellow one. But after digging deeper into it. The trans and transfer case had a ton of water in it. The carb was rusted shut, no gasket, the intake has rust flakes loosely laying in the runners and has been full of water, the fuel sending unit is missing and the tank has been full of water. The body had been sitting off the frame for a really long time before I bought it. The steering box was partially disassembled enought to get the worm gear and shaft out of the box to take the body off and the wheel and outer tube are missing. It was basically a basket case to start with.

Also keep in mind I have a 69 that's my driver that I'm not afraid to scratch, dent, and drive like I stole it. The other 2 are an RI and RII that I want to show and take Sunday drives in. My retired father has really taken a liking to the yellow one and discussions have been had as to how deep we want to repair the body. Or leave it and find a way to stop the surface rust from getting worse. The topic of they are only original once keeps coming up too. So the focus is to get the running gear right. And then figure out what direction we go with the tub.
