I'm wanting to start mounting a half cab and will probably be needing some hand holding before it's done. Would like to fit it properly and then break it back down to repaint the top and the tub. Hopefully, anyway. It is complete and I did take it apart to remove it so I'm not completely lost, just don't want to goof it up any. I have been studying the instructions for a full cab posted in the restoration forum with my XXX reading glasses and I think I can make out most of it. For starters, they want you to flatten off the top of the bow socket, one side is pretty good as-is but the other is probably 3/32nds proud, and from the looks of the weld I can get some of it but if it gets anywhere near flat it will no longer be welded. Can I use a thin strip of rubber, like one layer of bicycle tube for a gasket under the top where it meets the tub to make up for it a little or will that throw off some critical geometry further down the line? Or am I trying to keep it straighter than necessary? And maybe one more easy one to start off, the one remaining V6 badge is right where the bottom door hinge will be, how do I remove it without damage? No studs. Okay, maybe one more. On this '71 the windshield post wrapper interferes with the wiper motor cover, I have a spare cover I was planning to trim and make a tab of some sort to secure it. I'm sure anybody who has done this with a Meyer top and a bottom wiper will know what I'm talking about, am I on the right track or do you have a better plan to secure it? Thanks

For info, I fixed a hook in the center of my Meyer hard top, It is really easy to move it alone and you don't see it.
Just find the exact center of gravity.

For the bow pocket can you tack weld it to the flat of the fender well where it goes through it? Then you could grind it flat on top and it won't be an issue. Mine is a Kelly top and the upper door hinge tightened down is what holds the door jamb to the windshield frame, so if yours does that you should be good to go. I do understand what you mean about the trimming you describe.

I assume you would put some sort of cushion/anti squeak rubber where the side sits on top of the tub edge, if it bolts down on top of that it should get squished pretty good. I think starting out as even and flat as you can would be best.

wiper cover goes under windshield filler piece . as for bow pockets . just grind them flush . as they don't serve a purpose any more . no new top uses them
to remove stick on emblems , used fishing line as a saw

Okay, Thanks guys. I think I have an improved plan for the wiper cover, I will run it by you guys before anything gets modified.
I do like your "skyhook' system but I'm not sure I have room. I ended up putting a full cab back on the old Jeep when I removed this half cab because I really don't have a good place to store it.
I think I will go ahead and flatten that bow socket off, they are welded on the bottom end, I guess I can always re-weld it prior to painting if it comes loose on top. This is a REALLY NICE tub, so it kind of pains me to modify it in any manner, drilling holes in the W/S frame and the front fenders is bringing me great sadness. I spose' it's all in the name of progress. The cable saw is a good idea, I have sawed a bunch of underground PVC with a piece of string in those places where you can't stand on your head and run a hand saw at the same time.

Yes you need room above to have it easy moving. I'll move this system in a bigger barn next summer.
