v6 Better on road and off. I'd only swap back for restoration purposes. I own both.

I replaced my frame with a V 6 frame when I restored my 64, there is a lot of difference between the two. If the V 6 is already in the Jeep it would be a lot easier to finish it than to go back. You would have to cut the V6 motor mounts off and put the four cylinder motor mounts back on it, move the cross member back forward, you would have to change the drive shafts, transmission, clutch cross shaft, to name just a few things I remember from doing it. I sometimes wonder if I should have put my body on the V 6, but I already had a NOS 134 short block. Good luck what ever you decide.

If the V6 doesent run right or needs something substantial I will probably put the tub on the 4 cylinder frame and run that while I restore the other chassis it all depends which one is in better shape to start with, when I'm done with the 4 cylinder chassis my brother in law wants to put a fiberglass tub on it. Good thinking, That is what I did, I a had a 64, 4 cylinder, and a 66, V6 for parts. I built the frame one winter, and did the switch the next. Worked out all the way around. Gook luck

Dont mean to hijack the thread, but I am planning on swapping everything from my '70 CJ5 v6 to a '62 frame. Is there modification beyond the motor mounts needed when going in this direction?

My next engine, if I ever get there, will be a 4.3. I've read and heard too much good stuff about putting this engine in a cj to think about any other V6, save the possibility of doing a fuel injected 225. The 4.3 though is a great engine with parts available at any parts store anywhere. Smooth, quiet, reliable, cheap. If you're considering a V6 other than the 225, I would look no farther than the 4.3.

I considered several options in place of the F head. from the GM 2.2/2.5 4 cylinders, 2.8,3.1, 3.4 or 4.3l v6s or buick 3800 or more modern ohc engines to even the diesel komatsu swaps some people have done. The trouble is unless the F head is absolutely destroyed. it proved lower cost to mix/match parts to assemble a good runner.

I then struggled with the balancing the support systems such as brakes, suspension, steering to make sure the jeep as a whole was as blanaced as possible

The cost of adapters, and ancillary parts add up quickly to out pace the cost of a basic rebuild and head work.

Please keep in mind my little $1600 jeep has netted basically a good frame, front grill, hood and a slew of rebuildable cores. I should not have expected anymore. In hindsight since my dad and son are working together on the jeep the experience is priceless and worth more than I have in it thus far.

    Good luck on your decision.
