SM 420 new synchros and bearings

It was running when I pulled the pulled the motor in November, Just an occasional grind from from 3rd to 2nd. Found the front seal weeping a bit when I pulled the bellhousing yesterday. I figure now is as good a time as any to have it gone through.

 

there is no front input seal on pre 1953 sm420's. It will leak if you park it facing down hill. If your guy will freshen it up with new synchros and bearings with new clutch keys if it it needs it for 350, go for it. I think its a pretty good deal.

If your transmission is pre1953 Novak makes an adapter to instal a seal. you need to send them the parts, they machine it and you have a seal.

 

I been driving this transmission for a couple weeks now. It all works well. No issues shifting but you need to take your time going into 3rd or it will grind. No more grinding going into 4th. It sounds better and overall was well worth the effort.
