okay I will be ordering a kit for the carb to rebuild and now my next question is in the wiring. The PO cut the loom of wires going through the firewall by the steering wheel. Both sides are there and so my first thought was to just connect them back together, but then this would be the perfect time to attach it all to a fuse box or set of breakers. Any thought on that? I really don't want to go to the expense of a new harness at this point, and except for the cut, the wires seem fine. Thanks, Don

I ripped all mine out as it was basically toast. I'm going to order a painless kit. I spoke with them and they are setting it up for what I have and extras.

My harness as I pulled it out...

I may change mine at a later date, right now I am just trying to get it going to see if it runs and drives. I can oly have so many major projects going at once....new axles on the powerstroke and complete restore on the v-drive, so no tearing a jeep apart, just yet.

Why don't you just wire in the required wires to make it run. Power wire to ballast resistor. Ballast to coil +. Coil - to dist. Battery plus cable to starter. Battery negative to eng block ground. The Power wire to the ballast will can be twisted temporarily to the pos post on the battery when you are ready to start and just use a screwdriver to jump across the solenoid. That's it. Go for it..
