72 Commando Speedo Cable

Is the speedometer cable in my 72 Bullnose a GM sourced part, in other words are the ends where they attach to the speedometer and the transfer case Gm threads? Thanks Bob

 

More along the lines of Ford. TC end is typical of the GM but the speedometer end is Ford/Chrysler threaded style compared to the GM push on.
Do you need one for a standard or auto trans? Standard are readily available as they're the same as CJ, 5351777.

 

I need one for my 72 Bullnose that I converted to 2WD and made a little street cruiser out of. I kept the turbo 400 but the speedo goes into the tranny, not the t case as it did when it was 4WD.

 

The speedometer measures the rotation of the drive shaft so would it really mater whether its at the tranny and not the transfer case?

 

The adapter will be the same thread/size whether at the TC or the transmission. Because you're moving it from back at the TC to the trans the one I listed should be long enough or just use your original.
