Does anyone have a definitive word on what our CJ5s had as original tool kits, if any? I checked my owner's manual, and there's no mention. I know there was the jack and handle, but was curious what wrenches (and sizes) if any were considered important enough to provide with the vehicle. I'm looking to carry a MINIMUM of tools when I take to the road that would address the "typical" issues for a stock jeep. Other than the Warn OD, and PTO winch, Percival is bone stock (and loving it).

    Thanks-

I've never seen or heard of provided tool kits with civilian Jeeps, military vehicles different story of course. Personally I would mainly worry about tune up type tools and a few small wrenches, screwdrivers, adjustable wrench, vise grips, that sort of stuff. I think there is a thread on here somewhere about what everyone carries.

If you want to cover most events that leave you stranded, the most common are -
    1) run out of fuel,
    2) flat tire,
    3) no spark,
    4) no fuel.

Not sure about the order of 3 and 4, but if the engine stops running suddenly, it's nearly always because you have no ignition or have no fuel to the engine.

So the minimalist check list would be 1) plenty of fuel, 2) a good spare and tools and supplies to fix a flat, 3) ignition parts like a spare coil and points/condensor, some wire, and basic tools to change them, and 4) a fuel pump, siphon hose, and so forth.

I know for a fact that my '65 Tuxedo Park (1964 production) came new only with a mechanical jack and short lugwrench with a 90* bend. This rattled around in the passenger underseat compartment for nearly 30 years, and I still have the pieces. My dad bought the Jeep new and I grew up with it. I see the correct jack offered on eBay frequently. No other tools came with the Jeep, though we carried a small complement of basic tools in that same compartment.

Could you post a picture or link to the correct jack and lug wrench? I would like to know what to look for.

Check out EBay #121591521503. Though this one is listed as WWll, it is the correct one as my original from1964/65, except mine was painted black. There is another very similar jack that I believe IS the WWll version that has a nearly square pad at the top with sharp corners and slight cupping, as opposed to the more rounded and cupped top pad in the EBay ad listed above.
I haven't seen my lugwrench for many years, but it has a 90* bend with about 10" of handle that fits into the above jack.

Same for my '70. The original color looks to be a bluish green; it's now got a nice patina of light rust. Fully functional. Lug wrench is short with a 90* bend and fits the jack.

    Regards,
