I'm looking for a 6 tub right now. Have all the frame done with csb, exhaust, axles, suspension etc. Just looking for that elusive tub. Nice work and keep going, I'm looking forward to seeing it all finished up.

I like the storage. I guess I missed that earlier in the tread. Or not. But a great idea, assuming it's not stock. I've never had a 6 so don't really know.

Nope definitely not stock. stock they used the same wheel housings as the CJ5 but had an extra 20" of space between the front seats and wheel housings. Mine are trailer fenders I've widened and cut to size. Hoping to have room for dual batteries in them for the diesel motor that's going in it.

So got a little more odds and ends done this weekend, including welding some 1/4" x 1/2" bar stock under the top of the trans tunnel to reinforce it and allow material to drill and tap later for bolts for the trans cover. Ordered my Crabtree Tool and Die CJ/YJ Front Hangers and YJ shackles this morning. Hope to be needing them soon!

Got the outside of the firewall, cowl, and driver's side sprayed with epoxy primer today. Was wanting to do the inside also but, prep work took longer than I figured. Will work on the inside of those parts next. Some areas the bodywork actually looked better than I expected.

I remember how excited I was on my build when I got primer on and the tub was all one color. Nice work!

on your first page you said you didnt want the d60 due to clearance? have you seen them trimmed?
ive seen a guy cut off 2 1/2" then weld a soft steel 1/2" plate back on. the bottom of the 60 is raised by 2" which is like going from 35" to 39" tires. all dependant on your welding skills of course. =)

    this guy does it nicely...

Yeah I've seen the trimmed Dana 60's. But, your looking at more cost and since I don't know of any Dana 60's that had SUA mounting pad cast into the pumpkin. I'd think you would end up having to run wider axles and outboard the springs, neither of which I want to do, not a fan of the look of a full width axle on a CJ.

Yep..........There are lots of specifics about Pre heating & Post cooling when welding on cast Iron......or nodular Iron such as most axles.......in any case the weld zone needs to get up to at least 500 degrees prior to welding then after .....cooled down slowly....I like to wrap with a welding blanket and also add a small space heater to the area for several hours.......Those guys in the video seem to have a pretty good method that works for them......
