    Hi Guys,
I replaced the temp sender in my 65 over the winter, along with the water pump and thermostat. Right from the start, the needle would hang about 3/4 of the way to hot, although it would sometimes stay right in the middle. Figuring the new Murray thermostat was crap, I replaced it with a new 180 Stant, and now she pegs the needle. Went for a 45 mile ride today, and it was pegged the whole time. No boil over or anything like that, but I was nervous. When I got home, a thermometer in the radiator showed 185, which is good. I will also add that I do not notice flow in the radiator, although there appears to be an elbow internal to the radiator facing away from the cap hole, which may limit what flow I can see. Possibly a cheesy sending unit, or should I dig deeper?
    Thanks,
    John

Probably the sending unit, but you could first try removing it and reinstalling it. Maybe the threads aren't making good contact with the block? If that doesn't work I recommend a mechanical one for a replacement.

Check the wiring connections too. A bit of excess resistance or looseness will mess up the readings.

Of course this discussion is assuming the sending unit is truly compatible with the gauge.

The sender is the one listed for my application, but that doesn't mean anything. I think I might verify that the regulator on the cluster is doing its job.

    Hi,
I checked resistance on my sending unit, and got about 290 when cold. Can anyone check theirs and let me know what the ohm reading is? I think this might be way high.
    Thanks,
    John

Thanks. Resistance is right where it should be. Think I'll get new temp and oil pressure gauges and mount them under hood.

Under the hood? Gonna be kind of hard to see when driving. ;)

Agreed! CB is going in the radio hole, and I'm not cutting any more holes in the dash. I'd mount them under the dash, but my legs and my kids will have them ripped off in no time flat.

Yeah, kids can change the equation a bit. :)

Mount them ON the hood, then you can still read them. R)

There was at least one muscle car that had that arrangement.

Per another thread, they engaged the PTO without my knowledge, and wound the winch tighter than you know what while I was driving. They filled the last axle I rebuilt with drywall screws, handed me their poop while it was dark ( I thought it was Playdough and tried to make a shape before I realized what was up.) etc, etc. never used to believe the stories I heard before kids, but now I do. They love the Jeep and the garage, so all is good. On topic, I shot the whole engine and radiator with a temp gun, and the highest is 170. All is good, but I did order some Stewart Warner gauges and the heaviest gauge panel I could find. I will try under the dash, and if that doesn't work with my helpers on board, under the hood they go!

I talked to a friend this afternoon. He took his dog out for a walk with 2 baggies. One had peanuts in it. He stuck his hand into the wrong bag.
