So I have a slight dilemma... Awhile ago I rebuilt my t-case. I took my time and did everything right. I set the endplay on the output shaft just right. Then I removed the shims and sprayed them with copper and reassembled everything. That was about 400-500 miles ago. I have had no problems with anything. I checked everything with the temp gun and by touching the bearing retainers....everything is good. Now to the problem. My wife brought something in the house yesterday handed it to me and said "what is this thing....I found it in the yard" It was a bearing cap shim!!!! I have no idea how it got there. I thought i counted shims before and after but I must have messed up. It still had the copper spray on it. should I tear it apart and add the shim? After 400 miles would something bad have already happened? Not sure what to do? Thanks -MF

I'd say the bearing has run itself in by now.. May not hurt just to recheck endplay and see where you stand..

Ok good advice.. I was kinda thinking that if I just throw the shim back in things would be sloppy, and that could cause other issues too. Could there be damage/wear to anything other than the bearings?

Just curious if you measured the thickness? Do you remember what you actually set the end play at?

I think with the shim stack I was using I ended up with .007 endplay. So I'm guessing it will be a lot tighter with the missing shim. I didnt measure the thickness of the shim I found yet....

You never know...but if she is, I'm impressed. She found one of my extra shims in the garage...sprayed it with copper permatex waited until after I assembled my t-case and then showed it to me at the right moment. Touché woman....Touché :) I will ask her a few more details about her discovery...haha

Don't know about you all, but my wife is smart enough to mess with me that way. She has more than once. Kind of scary in a way....

My Wife is smart but i don't think she could pull that off... I 100% believe I messed up and forgot a shim... I had them hanging out side and I'm guessing it blew of my drying rack.
