I keep getting water in the F134 oil bath air filter. Did early CJ5s have splash shields that went on the passenger side of the frame to keep the front drive shaft from throwing water into air filter?

    No, no splash shield.

Never heard of this problem before. :?

Under what conditions is this happening? How/where is your air filter installed?

It's mounted in the factory location. It happens when I go down to a creek not far from the house. There are several large mud holes I have to go through in order to get there. The reason I'm asking is because the CJ2A has a splash shield that mounts on the frame next to the battery tray, But I haven't been able to find anything for a early CJ5.

I assume you mean you are getting water in the oil? If so how much do you get in there? This has me curious. You should be able to make one out of 16 ga. sheet metal relatively easy I think.

I got enough in there to make a milk shake and to make it hard to start.

Hard to start? I am assuming you originally had the oil level in the bowl at the correct level? That's a lot of splash to get that much water in there. I guess it's doable of course, and I've gotten a bit of water in mine but not that much. Do you think it's coming directly up and hitting against the firewall?

That's what I'm thinking it's doing and being slung up by the front axle. But it has rained alot here for the past two weeks so the water level on all the local trails and creeks have been way up.

Are you sure the distributer cap [points and wires] is what is getting wet and causing it to not start?

Nope after I cleaned the air filter pan out and refilled it. The jeep starts and runs fine now. I'm going to make a splash shield out of some sheet metal like on CJ2As and bolt it to the frame.
