Fender to Body/Grill Seam Compound

    1966 CJ5: What was originally used as a bedding compound when attaching the fenders? or was it a welting?

    This comes up here every so often - try a search.

    I believe the answer is a soft rope putty, exactly like Mooretite weatherstrip. Militarys may have had cotton welt.
    But I will bow to the historical experts.

    I got a large inner tube and cut rubber strips for the welting. The original looked like some kind of putty.
