I've done a ton of searches and can't come up with a definitive answer. I just bought headman headers with 2.5 inch collectors, 2.5 inch header buddies, and a pair of 2.5 inch inlet/ outlet summit glass packs. I didn't know that the headers came with reducers that measured 1 3/4 inches. My question is would I be better off keeping what I have or using the smaller diameter pipes and mufflers or is the difference insignificant?

If your question is do you need a 2 1/2 " exhaust system for a V6 the answer would be NO if it is just a stocker.......using the 2 1/2 glass packs will also give you issues for size and clearance........going from the 2 1/2" collector to 1 3/4 is no big deal..........run the pipes all the way to the back if you can........exiting out the sides or underneath the truck near the drivers compartment will just get you fumes inside.

Thank you. I will return the 2.5 inch and go smaller diameter.

Tarry let me know how your set up works out, I am about to have to run mine and can't decide on stock manifolds or headers. I want a quiet muffler that exits at the rear though. Hard to decide, may want to change steering over one day

Nothing wrong with stock manifolds, Some guys use the stock setup that has a cast iron front dumps on the drivers side that has an under the engine crossover pipe that connects to the passengers side manifold and then exits out the rear in one pipe............the headers also have choices......Novak and Advanced Adapters both sell a set of headers that are block huggers that drop down off of the head and stay inside the frame rails going back.........can be a little of an issue going towards the rear on the drivers side with steering and then clutch linkage on the way back and then either going above or below the tranny cross member......reflected heat migrating into the floor above can be a unpleasant especially in warm climates...... not an issue when driving , it's when your off road crawling around at 5 mph when you can really feel the heat coming up..............single or dual exhaust can be used once beyond that to the rear.

Personally I like the fender headers as long as there tucked up.......they will get the floor warm on the outside but it does seem cooler than having all of the pipe trapped below you when running inside the frame.............In the picture you can see the headers and then collector and then a 1.750 pipe that crosses under the frame ahead of the rear tires......and then into a muffler and then exit to the rear on each side.........never had any issue with hitting rocks where it crossed under...............plenty of options , As far as power steering there are a few different mounts that allow the pump to be installed on the front of the motor left side........the cast iron manifolds take one style while the headers take another.......just figure out what works best for you.
