Alright so I know this is a stupid question and probably easily answered, but I've been looking for weeks and can't find anything online or in person. I just need to know where the speedometer goes on the transfer case, I read that it was by the rear driveline on the right side but I just can't find anything. I have the v6 t86aa d18

It's right behind the emergency brake drum.

Do you happen to have a picture of the spot where it goes to help me find it better? Also, thank you for the help!

You may need a mirror to see it.

My 71 doesn't have a e-brake installed right now, so here is a good view of the speedo cable location.

So my speedometer doesn't work on this jeep I recently bought. I took the cable off at the gauge and drove the jeep a bit but the cable is not spinning. The cable does not appear broken as whe I take off both ends I can spin it and it responds on the other. So next I guess it's inside the transfer case. Any help with how to repair that area?

take off the rear yoke and remove the end cap. think its like 5 bolts probably 3/8 and inside there should be a gear. yours is probably been removed for whatever reason

As usual, what transfer case and what gear ratio in the axle. Some of us do have a few parts in the garage that might work.
Of course, are you sure the speeometer works?
OK, I went back and looked, a D18 but what axle ratio do you have? The gears aren't the same for the speedo.

or maybe you don't have to remove the rear cap I don't really remember it might simply be screwed in. after you unscrew the speedo cable from the transfer case it might be threaded in under it I cant remember

the gear that runs the speedo cable is probably about 3/4 to 1 inch around and around 3 inches long its roughly the size of a medication pill bottle is what your looking for

On a few vehicles I've owned, you could change the driven gear off of the back of the transmission or transfer case to adjust for a slight axle ratio change and get the speedo close to correct. I don't think you can do this on an older Jeep. The 3B is pretty much dead on, the Commando is 10% off. I think it was Oldtime that had a list of numbers/gears for each of the axle ratios in a post for the speedos. It seems like some of the gears are unobtanium.
