I'm wrapping up my T-18 install behind my dauntless 225 v-6, and I'm at the point that I'm fabricating / modifying the rear crossmember. Since I can, I'd like to set the engine at the original angle. That's where I need a bit of help. Can some of you with stock setups put an angle finder on the carb throat or some other good reference surface and tell me what you have? I've installed 3" spacers between the frame and original crossmember, and it "looks" like I can come up a half inch yet on the mount between the rear of the tranny and the crossmember. Your measurements are appreciated!
While you're at it, does the engine and tranny set straight between the framerails or angled towards the drivers side rear of the jeep?

Most early OEM manifolds are made with the area that the carb is bolted to cut at 3-5 degrees...........so when the motor is in the car the carb is level and the motor is sloping downhill to the rear to better aid in firewall and tunnel clearance and a better approach to pinion angle. Fuel injected TBI and TPI manifolds due to the lack of floats and a pressured system will normally be mounted level to the motor although the motor will still have a slight slope to the rear due to the reasons mentioned above.

I suspected that was the case. Thanks for the info. I'll level up the top of the carb.

I measured mine a long time ago and found it to be very close to 4 deg slope on the engine and the top of the carb level. The engine sits about 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 inches to the left and is straight in line at the front to back offset.

Thank you Mr. Couch. As I jacked up the tranny a little to bolt in my crossmember, it "jumped" to the passenger side. I suspect I had it in a bit of a bind with one jackstand under the tailhousing. It is straighter in the frame now, and I've got the carb nearly level. I appreciate the info. Had to call it quits for Christmas, but I'll be back at it Friday. Merry Christmas.
