I've ordered a set of the 16" repops from KaiserWillys.com for my 66 CJ5 that is "almost" stock. It has a 2 1/2" lift underneath it. Original drivetrain and motor (Dauntless V6, T86AA, D-18 Transfer case, Dana 27 front, Dana 44 rear). I want to mount BF Goodrich AT's in 235/85r16 on it. Good choice? Anybody got pics of something similar? I really want the stance to be right on it. I want in the end to have a "stock" looking rig, but sitting up a bit higher. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks guys,,,

No personal experience with those on a Jeep, but most tires that size are load range E (that's the tire size on my F250).
I think it'll make the your Jeep ride rough(er).

Actually, I think the BFG AT's will work well on a Jeep. I've been running those on my 2500 GMC (245's) and they wear excellent (over 40k), and have great traction on snow and ice. OK in mud but not great. Sidewalls are not that stiff. I get a little squat on the 2500 running 50 psi. If they made a 255-75-17 version, they would be on my Rubicon for normal mixed use.

If you ordered the 5" rims you should be good to go with that width tire. The 4.5" rims are a tiny bit too narrow in my book. It is only a half an inch but it is noticeable.

The KaiserWillys.com website states that the rims are 5 3/4". But it also states that tubes should be used. Any opinions on that? Can I mount a tubeless tire on them? They claim to be "just like original".

235/75/15 vs 235/85/16 is apples to oranges.

Do they say if you can use radial tires on the wheels? Some older wheels, especially riveted, weren't designed to handle the stresses that radial tires introduce and also weren't sealed well and do need tubes in them. You can run tubes in a tubeless tire, just make sure you get tubes designed for a radial tire and that your wheels can handle radials.

Bead to bead is what is important. I would find out what the 5 3/4" represents exactly, which is probably total width. I would also recommend using tubes.
