    Hi:

So I have a '67 coming back together and have been able to get parts from RockAuto, but ran into an issue. After ordering a water temp sensor and an oil pressure sensor I found that both of them were a smaller size than this engine requires (V6). Been fishing around but not coming up with the proper sized sensors, JCWhitney has something that looks like it might be right but having a hard time telling from the pictures.
    Anybody found these things anywhere?

Also just got my tranny back from Herm and wondered if those of you who have done the install used a dial gauge to properly align the bellhousing and transmission with the engine. I have done this on a CJ3A but didn't know about dial gauging the alignment and wonder now how far I might be off on that one. Getting close to getting this thing back together, just need to sort out of few of these issues to get the program rolling. Hope to get some pictures on here as it comes together. Really enjoy seeing everyone else's stuff.

Yes, once. I had a CJ5 with the straight six and a four speed. Jumped out of gear. After a full (and very expensive) transmission rebuild, it still jumped out. In the end I used a dial indicator and discovered the bell housing bore was not aligned with the crank and clutch.

A beer-can shim fixed the problem.

Usually, the easy way to adapt the supplied sensors is through the use of pipe bushings. These brass bushings are readily available from most hardware stores. Typically, you may need 1/8" pipe thread to 1/4" pipe thread. Just use one of these bushings with thread tape to install the supplied sending unit.

To check the concentricity of the bell housing bore to the crankshaft centerline you need a dial indicator with a magnetic stand. Attach the magnetic base to the flywheel end of the crankshaft. I don't think it matters whether the flywheel is mounted or not, except for clearance to fit the dial indicator in there. Adjust the dial indicator on the stand such that it will contact the edge of the bell housing bore. You will need to have the bell housing off to do this, and do several trial fit remounts of the bell housing to get the dial indicator set close enough to centerline.

Once the dial indicator is on centerline, rotate the crankshaft so that the indicator tip travels all the way around the inside of the bell housing bore. Watch the dial for a runout measurement. You are looking for <~ .005". If you see between .005 and .008, that's marginal. If you measure greater than .010, go to a speedshop and ask for a set of offset dowel pins for the back of the engine block.
