    Greetings,

I have had a 63 Cj5 under construction for many years. Mostly the project has been shelved. Recently I have restarted my efforts.

Currently, the power train is 95% complete. I plan to get it running then start body-work.

Years ago, I purchased a saginaw kit from McRuff and I am ready to start the process of fitting the steering and body elements.

As many of you have found, you need a tie rod from the left side to the right either to a two hole knuckle or a two hole tie rod end. My setup is the latter.

I have been reading and re-reading the Saginaw conversion thread with great interest looking for a simple solution to getting a tie rod that will work on and early 5 with the two hole tie rod. Fabrication is not my strong suit.

I have also been surfing the web for custom-length tie rods. Likely my best solution.

However, before I do so, I would be remiss to ignore the wealth of information and knowledge from this forum.

I am open to ideas. I do not have the facilities or expertise to cut down an existing rod and re-thread the end.

If you know of existing part numbers somewhere that would work out of the box, I would love to have them.

If you are capable of fabricating one for me, please let me know.

    Meanwhile,

    Happy Jeeping
    Jim

No problem. PartsMike was very helpful to me during my frameup.

    IIRC,
One of the tie rods from a Y Style factory steering setup will be the right length. If you can give me an estimate on length, I have about four of those setups sitting around I would be happy to measure for you. If one of them will work, I'd be happy to send you one for the cost of shipping.

It appears to be about 38 1/2 inches from the center of the holes.

    Thanks,

I took another measurement. The distance from the middle of the threads on one tie rod to the middle of the threads on the other is about 33 1/2 inches.

Sorry for the delay, I completely forgot about this until today.

This is the setup that came with my parts jeep with a manual saginaw steering conversion. The long tube is 36 1/2" and the short tube is 20". This appeared to work correctly the way it was set up. I went with a power box, and a two hole knuckle Dana 30 so I switched to the separate tie rod and drag link.
