I started to assemble the new drag link kit and got a bit confused! The FSM show the total opposite of how the drag link was mounted on my jeep from factory. I know the history of the Jeep and it has never been off. The FSM http://www.hdts.vcn.com/JEEP/DRAG LINK.pdf shows the steering box side should have the spring and spacer between the ball seat and end plug. When looking at my old pics and seeing where the grease fittings are it is totally swapped around

Also the kit has 4 of these and the FSM shows only one on each end. What is the right setup?

I noticed to that the new spring from kit is longer than original

I did a dry fit. is this the proper placement of the ball ? I assumed it should be further into the rod

The critical safety factor is that when the spring goes into compression, the ball end cannot escape from the drag link.

Study on it and it will make sense.
The screw adjustment caps, cups etc, must be assembled in a sequence to fully trap the ball ends regardless of the spring adjustment or compression action.
Each "keyhole" must retain it's respective ball end, without counting on the spring pressure. The adjuster must absolutely prevent the link jumping out, as a 'hard' stop.

In your last picture, things seem to be on the right track.
