I am in the process of replacing brake lines on my 48 CJ2A. After installing all new lines, I find the issue might be the wheel cylinders. I have an 11 inch brake conversion. Is it possible to remove and replace the wheel cylinders without removing brake shoes, springs, linkage, etc?

Yes.. Do you have the FSM? It goes through the procedure without removing the whole assy. Remove the brake shoes return spring and that should give you enough movement to remove the wheel cylinder.

I don't have the FSM, I am working on an 11 inch aftermarket brake kit. I think I know which spring is the brake shoe return spring. Thanks for the help!

Take off the top two springs and you should have room.

See if your brakes match figures 9-22 and 9-23 here - http://oljeep.com/gw/74_tsm/9-BrakesWheels.pdf

Daryl and Walt are referring to the primary and secondary return springs here. If you remove the springs, you will need a brake spring tool to put them back.
