Is it nessecary to have the spring for the inside of the bottom radiator hose?
What exactly is it's purpose? Does it keep the hose from collapsing?

    Thank you

To keep it from collapsing, especially at bends, has always been my belief.

The makers of the hoses (Gates, Dayco) claim that you don't need it with their modern hoses. But yes, the coil was in there to keep the bottom hose from collapsing.

If you have a bottom hose with a coil inside, I'd say you need to keep it. If you replace the bottom hose and the new hose comes without a coil, you can keep it or not - up to you, whether you believe the claims of the makers about modern hoses.
