70 steering and DUI distributor question

Hello everyone new to the forum.
I am currently restoring a 70 CJ5. I just mounted a AGR steering box from Quadratec and I notice the drag link is short. Oh I should tell you I also put a Dana 27 under the front. Do I need to use a dropped pit man arm. And this may sound dumb. But in the neutral position does it have to be parallel to the frame rails or can I off set it to the right to link with the drag link? I'm assuming it needs to be parallel.

Also the jeep has a 226 odd fire V6. I bought a DUI distributor for it I have already had the engine rebuild. My problem is the distributor does not drop into the block. The shaft housing is just a hair to big. It was supposed to be a direct replacement for the original.

My question is how can I correct this. I have access to a metal lathe. You any of you advise to take a little off the house of the distributor shaft housing or would opening the hole on the intake be a better option?

    Thanks for any help folks!

Should be a 225 OF V6. Search for HEI and button head bolts. You need to grind the intake a bit and replace the one bolt with a button head. It all fits after that.

A 70 CJ did not come stock with a front mounted steering box. Yours has been modified. This is a very common swap, but there's many different ways of going about it. What this means is you may need a dropped pitman arm. You may need a custom length drag link. But, there's no way to know for sure unless you post some pics.

I also have a 70 w/ power steering and HEI distributor.
You said you put in a dana 27? That was the stock front axle. I swapped out the 27 and put in a dana 30 front axle with lift springs and I did not need the dropped pitman arm. I would guess you do not need one but there can be a lot of small differences from one setup to another. Note that there are different length pitman arms which will change both your steering ratio and throw. Pictures would help.

Regarding the HEI/DUI. When I installed mine I had to grind what seemed like a lot off of the intake manifold. And I used the button (round) head bolt in that spot. It worked very well except for clearance for the hose to the vacuum advance.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Those were my mistakes on the engine it is a 225 not 226 and I did put a Dana 30 in it not a 27.
Your answers were exactly what I was looking for. Hope everyone has a great weekend
