Trying to help out a co worker. He has a 48 2a that is very original unmolested and complete that is disassembled and now wants to sell. was sitting in a barn for the last 15 years. 13,xxx miles on odometer, flathead, 3pd, d18 with Arrow pto with front and rear output. Includes front pto winch with cable - not sure if has driveshaft. Original steering wheel, e brake and handle, axles with larger 11 inch brakes. Body exterior and floors looked solid - bracing under is rusted and some is partly missing from rust. Hood, fenders and windshield frame solid. Any suggestions on what they should try to get for it? Thanks.

Impossible to know without pictures. The Pto may be worth as much as the whole rest of the Jeep. The exact model of the pto can also vary the price from $100-500 for something that looks very similar. The devil is always in the details. Not much call for the original running gear anymore. I just bought a disassembled 3b this weekend for $100.

They can ask whatever they want for it. But tell them to be ready to negotiate to a more realistic price. Can't nobody here give you a number without photos and far more details.

Condition of engine/transmission/t-case/PTO/axles/brakes, etc. Could be a score, could be a nightmare. It could be "all there", or "except for this.... and that.... and those.... and I'm not sure where such and such is...." Then there's the parts that may be broken or plumb worn out.....

A Jeep in pieces will be worth a lot less than something that runs and drives. There's a lot of risk in buying a Jeep in pieces, since nobody can inventory the parts well enough to guarantee that it's all there. And you won't know what the condition of the mechanical parts is until it is put together.

The peak tippie-top for a 2A in nice original condition is above $5000, but not above $10,000 I would think. I expect I could buy a really good one for that much, if I looked for a while. Unassembled is a basket case, which is maybe 1/10th of that. If it's really nice and appears to be in good shape, you might start at, say, $2000 or $2500 and entertain offers. The military Jeeps command higher prices, but civilian Jeeps not so much.

Location in the country matters too. Here in Massachusetts, everybody assumes that any old car is a rust bucket, so old cars are cheap. Colorado may be a good market for Jeeps.

Another thing to remember is that trucks (and Jeeps) don't typically sell for the kinds of prices that passenger cars of the same vintage sell for. The less passenger-car-like the vehicle is, the less you can sell it for typically. And Willys is an odd brand, which is another point against it.

This is just to give you a rough idea of where you might be. If you can find similar Jeeps that have sold on eBay (not just listed - but sold) that might give you some additional data points. The old cars on eBay seem to sell for rather high prices, so don't expect to get similar prices through Craig's List or where ever. If you find someone that wants to restore the Jeep (ie put it back to stock condition, and not modify it) that's your prime buyer. But the body has to be nice, and not a lot of farmer welds on the frame and such.

    This site:

    http://www.ewillys.com/

does a good job of aggregating (old) Jeeps for sale postings.

    Might be worth a browse.

WOW, thanks everyone for the input. That ewillys site is cool.
disassembled to do full resto, lost interest. I'd buy because it is very original and complete but have a commando I am close to finished and then the 2a goes under in winter for another round of modding. If you know anyone interested, send em my way. They probably posting in a week or so once they get title clear. C list, here and cj2a site. thanks

Here in CO - crap shoot for what you will get. That could go for a few hundred to over 1K from what I know of the market. It all depends on completeness, condition, and willing to wait for the right person.
