Steve has said it clearer than I could, but I'd add that the charge wire doesn't necessarily have to go to the + bat terminal. It can go to the starter solenoid, whether it is a separate fender mounted one or mounted on the starter like on my 3.8L. As long as it mounts where the Pos cable terminates you are accomplishing the same thing and it might look neater, if that matters. I actually read an article that said the engineers ran it that way from the factory for a reason, but I think it is one of those things that you can get away with if you want.

Steve: Great dexcription. But on my old Motorola I plan on using the same wireing on the new GM. It's already there and is the same except I have an additonal ground wire. But that doesn't answer my question as what to do with the old fender well mounted regulator. Can I just un-plug it and forget it? Or do I have to jump or bridge a wire or two?

My old regulator is on the shelf in the garage.. :D
I used a one wire, so I just made a new charge wire, 8g fine strand, from the alt. to the sol.
I also upped the power wire from the alt. to the ign. switch to 10g, since the old one burnt up last week in the meltdown.
None of the old alternator/ regulator wires exist anymore....................
