    Hello All:

Some motor questions. Working on a '67 with the 225 V6. I pulled the carb and was going to soak it in carb cleaner but wondered before I screw something up, are there seals and gaskets in those Rochester 2bbl that I would damage by soaking it in cleaning solution? I ran compression tests on the engine yesterday and came up with the following readings (wet/dry) 170/142, 160/145, 170/153, 158/135, 160/145, 160/140. You guys who know this engine, would you be OK with those numbers? The spec sheet says no greater than 25% max variation between the cylinders, is there a better rule of thumb? The spec sheet for the motor gives settings for "with the A.I.R. system and without" I've looked all over and I cannot find any info on what the A.I.R. system is. What's that all about? Other than leaking like a sieve the motor seems pretty solid overall and I was hoping I could clean it up and replace a few gaskets and seals and run it as is. Do you guys know of anything else on this thing I should be careful about? I have a bunch of other things going on right now and hoped to shave time where I could but would rather take longer and do things one time.

    Thanks
    Tom

Yes, carb cleaner will destroy anything that is not metal. You have to take the carb apart to remove all the soft parts. The throttle butterflies remain in the carb body on their shaft, but pretty much everything else must be disassembled.

    Compression numbers are fine.

AIR is air injection. It's an emissions device. Do you have the Jeep factory service manual? If not, it's a good investment.
