Does anybody have any experience running a Weber 32/36 on a 258?

I'm getting frustrated with my Carter YF, and would like to replace it. I can't get it to idle well without being too rich, the choke is being a pain, and it doesn't like to work well on inclines. Will a Weber be any better? At least it will have an electric choke.

I know there are other options, such as the MC2100, but I just don't have the time right now to go looking through the salvage yards. The main downside I see to the Weber is the price. However, if it works well, and is reliable, then I can justify it.

Is it a reliable carb? What about cold weather operation? Easy to tune? Work well on hills? Power? Economy?

I have a weber on my 79 258. I haven’t had any troubles at all, starts fine with a very smooth idle, works well on the hills I have been on and I ‘m yet to check the fuel economy. Power seems fine.

A friend of mine had one on a 84 cj-7 limited (he also had an HEI conv on it) and was very happy with it. He didn't do a lot of wheeling but it was his daily driver until a growing family forced the trade to a full size wagoneer.

I bought one for my 258 to replace the stupid one barrel it had originaly. It was a vast improvement and it did have more power. But it wasn't smoggable in california and I hated the choke kicking off as soon as pressed the throttle down. I also had issues with it climbing off road. Other than that it was pretty good. Pulled it off the heap and went fuel injection instead. Built a stroked 4.0 and never looked back. ;)
