Working through cage ideas after a ton of interwebs reading ... Do y'all mock up stuff with wood or PVC to not waste DOM?

What do you guys think of this:

Thinking I need some sort of Left-to-Right diagonal ... Worried about seat interference ... Need to figure out how to plot my seats and bodies/heads in there.

do you plan on getting people or a big cooler back there ? I made mine out of pvc first,,,,,and 1 diagonal bar would be nice ......I put the diag bar from driver bottom to passenger top to protect my wife the most , but it does take up floor space .

I really like the looks of that. I think that you would be fine without a diagonal, I would just add a shoulder harness bar. Two questions though:

Can the main hoop be bent out of a single stick of tube?

    Will a soft top clear?

Main hoop is 236 inches as calculated by bend tech ... So it's close.

I took the measurements with the soft top on, so I hope it would clear, but I'm thinking about mocking it up with 1x2 or 2x2 wood to validate it. My main worry is where my head will be ... I need to sit in the seat and get my wife to measure where the top and back if my head are.

Since I don't have a bender and can't weld good enough for a cage, how much should a fab shop charge me to build something like this?

It's been a few years but IIRC I paid $800 for this:

I think the shop took a bit of a beating on it though so plan more.

There would be no reason to even consider that the main hoop should be one single piece of tubing.............the "Main Hoop" over your head , behind the seat should be a single stick of tubing although most aftermarket folks that sell a kit will split that in half for shipping reasons.............

As mentioned the Main Hoop should be one tube while the down tubes going forward from the Hoop to the floor should also be single tubes and welded at the intersect of the Main hoop.......... all other braces , rear hoop and diagonals also come off the hoop at that point.

The effectiveness of any cage or roll bar that is not tied directly into the chassis severely limits it's ability to offer the protection for what it is designed for.
