Was this a ventilating windshield?

While researching why my windshield has two different mounting holes for wipers I noticed some holes drilled in the inside of the frame. The previous owner had welded them closed on the outside. I did some googleing and it appears to me that the lifting rods may have been mounted there? Am I correct in my thinking?

 

There normally are holes in the inside side of the frame for ventilating type hardware - but all windshields have them.

You also seem to have a few extra, for a top and doors probably.

 

i have the "safari" windshield on my 1966 cj5a. this one looks very similar for sure. when you look at the outside bottom of the windshield it should be pretty obvious if it was once able to flip out. mine is currently at a body shop for new glass, welding up of all the little holes like yours has (from old tops, etc.), rust removal, and a good coat of primer.

The difference between drivers side and passenger side wiper holes may reflect that early CJ5 had only a manual wiper on the right, no motor,

On a ventilating type, ,the wipers are mounted lower, on the hinge-out section
