I am completing my 2A build to stock specs (with a few exceptions). Now contemplating building a modified Jeep.

I have a good '48 lefty tub, an SM420, and am about to buy a running (complete) 225 V6 with factory rear dump exhaust being removed from a Commando, which I will mate to a Spicer 18 Tcase. I would like to put all this in a 3A chassis with Dana 44 rear and (possibly) a Dana 27 front. Saginaw PS if it can fit.

I think this has been done about a zillion times, but are there any major gotcha's in assembling all this stuff?

    Thanks

The adapter length on the SM420 is longer than those offered for the SM465, but it should fit fine in the end. The biggest advice - fit it together. Put the full drive train on a hoist, swing it into the frame with the tub off and axles in. Then put the tub on and move the drive train to get the best fit BEFORE you weld your mounts and stuff in place. I build custom cross members for the tranny/tcase mounts on my setups as well.

Personally - I like to put a 2" body lift on by raising the body mounts (I have one with pucks that's going to be replaced now). That is easy for me as I put swinging pedals and Saginaw in at the same time.

Chuck - thanks for the advice. I would build from the frame up and end up doing the final placement as you suggest. I have thought about doing a custom bracket of some sort to align the D18 shift lever(s) next to the tranny lever in the traditional spot. Looking at the SM420 it looks like it might be just possible to get a rod past the passenger side bulge.

    Have a photo?

    Thanks again.

I have a lot of the photos for the Red '51 on warloch.com. I also have a Blue '49 with a similar philosophy (225, T18, D18, pedals, etc) that I can take for the 'final' way I do things.

The Red '51 will be updated to that philosophy as needed - it works well right now :)

Looked at your website... good info. Are those 'inside the frame' headers a stock product?

    Thanks,

    Mike
