Hi Everyone. Im new to the site, not to jeeps.

So i got a new jeep, a 67 cj5. This site has been pretty helpful so far. but the "tech" page is completely missing. Any idea if itll be coming back??

one of the main reasons is, im trying to find out if the motor i have is the dauntless v6. I know it would have came with one, it looks like one, but the HEI looks to be an even fire.

It runs great after i rebuilt the carb and did the timing, so it makes me thing it might have been swaped out to an even fire. I know the jeep was rebuilt over the last couple years. I dont want to pull the pan to check the crank unless I absolutely have too. I HATE trying to get the pan off motors. plus i just changed all the fluids. lol

There is a slight bog when i first step on the pedal. Almost like the plunger is giving a bit too much gas, or not enough.

The stamped number on the back of the block is 1381823, The 13 is almost scratched out looking, almost like its barely there. cant find much info online which leads me to another thread ill post later.

Every thread online points to the tech pages that used to be at earlycj5.com/tech/

Also. Its a t90c / what i think is a dana 18(twin stick). but no ebreak hub...

the dana18 is LOUD. as in, having a conversation is pointless... Is there an easy way to quiet it down till i can get a rebuilt one. or does anyone know of an offset tcase that will bolt in without an adapter?

thank you LOADS for any help!!

Go here for the tech page - http://web.archive.org/web/20090731233344/http://www.earlycj5.com/technical - the article there will tell you where to look for the casting numbers and how to decode them.

If it has a T-90, it most likely was delivered as a 4-cylinder and then was converted. Can't you tell from the VIN number? We have a VIN number document on the site.

The Dana 18 is loud as transfer cases go, but they get really loud when they are worn out. Looks like there's a rebuild in your future. There is no easy replacement, other than another Dana 18. Just man up, yank the transfer case and rebuild it. Not difficult, and you'll get plenty of support here.

First post ... Welcome from Boston!

Regarding the bog. I had this problem after rebuilding the carb on my v6. I never did figure it out as the bog eventually went away. Things to check would be vacuum, timing, and the balls in the 2G carb. Maybe do a search on "2G balls".

When I put a HEI distributor in my 225 odd fire, I had to keep playing with the timing to find the sweet spot. Once there, it doesn't bog, miss and has plenty of power and good gas mileage. I moved it about 1/2 degree at a time, and when I hit it, it sure sounded and ran different.

You probably do not need to rebuild the entire transfercase. Typically when they start making a lot of noise, it is the needles in the intermediate gear and the shaft. Those can be changed out without pulling the unit. Novak has the only intermediate shaft that I trust. If you put an Omix in, you will likely be changing it out again in a year or two.

And like Tim said, if it is a T90C, it was likely originally a F head. But if that is the case, it may have the T90A cluster and T90J main gear as you really need the long input for a GM conversion.

    And welcome aboard!

Carburetor bogs when you step on the gas are accelerator pump related. It may be time to go through the carb again or at a minimum drop in a new accelerator pump and spray carb cleaner through that circuit.
