    Thanks for asking. I'm still working on it............got some suspension packaging issues room wise , that I'm trying to resolve.

    Had someone looking for a 9" front locker yesterday that would accept Dana 60 shafts..... Made me think of you.

    Interesting combo.............but aftermarket wise I can get stronger axles in the 9" than factory 60 shafts that more than likely would have to be shortened?.................Have a Nice Holiday!

    All depends on how you tube the axle. A factory or aftermarket 35 spline replacement shaft intended for a D60 will fit in the 35 spline Air Locker for the 9". So you get the availability of stock or aftermarket off the shelf axles if tubed to the right lengths without having to have custom shafts made. This was a front application so there's really no standard for anything. You build it how you see fit. It's all custom anyway. Of course... I don't need to tell you that, lol.

    Thanks for asking Piffey....................Where have I been and is there any progress on my Jeep Project?
    Been busy with rental home remodel projects.........One gal was in one house for 28 years and a fellow in another for 18 years......and as life moves on I had two vacancies at once.

    Now not to say this is my normal everyday job , but over the last 40 years of being in the Real Estate Business I've been known to build and remodel many so it's no big deal , short of taking the time.......The sad part is , here in the Bay Area there is shortage of decent help that can read a tape measure, show up on time and have the knowledge and tools to do the job without someone babysitting them daily........guys that are good have more work than they can complete and the rest are just flakes.........these houses were built in the 60's so when I remodel were changing bathrooms......taking popcorn off the ceilings , re-texturing , painting , changing doors , New HAVC , appliances , New windows & trim, pulling all new copper water pipe and waste lines throughout all the way to the street and in some cases even upgrading the electrical............we do it all , but I must admit that what I think I can do in a given period of time now as I get older takes me twice as long!

    So for the past several months I have been eating sawdust with one of my old Handyman friends...........One house is near completion the other we just started , but I have found a few subs that I hope will work out for the second house.

    On the Jeep I continue when time allows to move forward on that project...........In Drag Racing everything is about applying power to 2 17" wide rear tires with a suspension & electronic timing system that allows for keeping that tire foot print planted for maximum traction as the car transitions down the 1320 ft of race track.......... A sophisticated off road suspension has two axles applying power, and during that process as the axles articulate and the vehicle is either going up or down the anti-squat , anti-dive , roll axis and COG are changing constantly as the car transitions a hill or trail.........Traction in the Jeep much like in the Race Car is the ultimate Goal................. but not any one suspension setup is going to be perfect in all places. Having a car that is both compliant , capable and doesn't surprise you on a side hill is not by chance............it has to be built in.

    I did run into some issues late last year on my 3-link front suspension brackets , when I decided to lower the ride height. This in a technician since upsets all the geometry in how the vehicle will handle when power is applied which forced me to re-evaluate where the packaging of the suspension & build was heading. There is no real secret to setting up the suspension as long as you follow known parameters while also building in flexibility & adjustments that will allow you to fine tune the system somewhere down the road if needed. Applying what is a known and finding the room to package it is two different Worlds apart........Not wanting to create a mess after seeing so many backyard built vehicles that are hazards before & after they hit the trail.........I just had to stop and clear my mind.

    Nah..........If I was to build another completely different car , I would look at doing an A-arm / IFS & IRS suspension..............but when your limited to an early Jeep body with a flat floor that sits on top of the frame rails the options are not really that many.....Going 14-16" Fox shocks with air bumps....front is on towers and the rear may be looking like a Cantilever suspension to save some room and height.........but I have not yet put much attention there yet.

    I also took some time out of Terrys schedule so he could help me get a 6 1/2 qrt oil pan and braced oil pickup under my Dauntless. since I had to pull my pan to install a new rear main seal......... in trade for keeping the ugliest fiberglass hardtop and doors on the side of my house for over 2 years !!!!!

    Hey Steve, You are going to like the baffle set up on that pan. It works great at keeping the oil going to the pickup while on off camber stuff.
    I like the extra capacity idea......... kinda looks like a wart.

    I think that tarry needs to start offering a oil pan modification service. Yes it would be expensive, yes it would be worth it.

    Well after spending the better part of a year remodeling two houses I can finally see a little light at the end of the proverbial tunnel........down to ordering appliances, installing counter tops , vanity's and sinks while wading through a few punch lists and new roll up garage doors going in tomorrow...........

    The good news is , I finally had some time in between my regular job to look at my CJ6 project..........and not much has changed there short of some new parts that have found there way into the shop , but what really needed help was the chassis fixture that was built decades ago that had 4"steel wheels and was next to impossible to move around..........So I called Fairbanks Casters in Rome , Georgia and got educated by a very talented Lady on rolling resistance and double race casters.............Changed over to 6 inch casters w/ Phenolic wheels and caster locks so they were steerable & rated at 1200 lbs. each. I'm also building some new screw leveling jacks using 1"-4 Acme threaded rods as the old jacks were worn out and bent..........

    Hope to start finishing up the front suspension soon and add those parts as the body needs to come off next to rough in the rear chassis and suspension.

    Been raining out this way and cold for several days..........put some sheet rock mud on one of my house projects the other day , went back and it's slow to go off for the second coat...frustrated I came back home and tripped over some stuff in the shop , hit my head :oops: and woke up staring at my Jeep Project :confused:...........Humm ( Not really!) But....maybe I should fire up that torch and do some welding to keep warm?

    Been messing with these link brackets for the front 3-link suspension for a while..........and after some careful calculations , I needed to correct the passengers side upper front frame bar location to have more spread between it and the lower bar........this to correct or give me more flexibility to adjust anti-dive in the front axle at ride height..........or basically giving me the ability in a given range to add more or less bite to the suspension.........by moving the instant center and roll axis either up or down...........

    Nothing perfect here as there is some educated guessing going on when trying to establish where the finished COG may be?...........so again best to have some adjustment. Lots of force on these brackets and the frame rails so if they look heavy , they are! Using 5/8" shank bolts on everything.

    The Bracket on the Right is the drivers side lower frame bracket.......I'm going to clamp or tack them both on to the frame rails before I
    finish welding the lower link brackets just to make sure the angle is correct to the axle brackets...
