There still is an Archer Bros. 4x4 in Eugene OR, but probably nothing left of the old one besides the name.

Yep I have seen the name before and quite honestly I do not believe it has anything to do with the folks down this way..........if it did I'm sure the Jr. Archer Kenneth would have mentioned it..........I was told that Ron Fitzpatrick and Herm the OD guy hauled numerous Semi loads of stuff out of there when it closed.........

I will PM you just out of curiosity and thanks for the invitation to do so..........................I hate to disappoint but there is hardly a Jeep other than a new one that would have Mopar Parts. My old CJ5 had a Buick V6 in it with mostly Dana & Borg Warner Drive and axle components...........the new build will be totally different.

    Yep it really is....
If I recall, they were running a Jeep in a SCORE event at Riverside Intl Raceway and they broke something...maybe the AMC V8 oil pump housing...or something with the housing....our parts dept wasn't open on Saturdays but we opened for them and got them going again. They were very appreciative for that.
They had a good reputation as a dealer and competitors.

    Back to the build

LOOKS PRETTY ROUGH.......WHERE DO I START?

MY FRIEND ALBERT STOPPED BY. HE LOVES TO WORK ON OLD VEHICLES , I FIGURED TWO HEADS WERE BETTER THAN ONE IN TAKING THIS APART. NOT THE FIRST PROJECT WE HAVE DONE TOGETHER. HE LIKES TO CUT AND I LIKE TO DO THE LAYOUT WORK SO WE ONLY CUT ONCE.

HUMM......DO I CUT HERE OR THERE?
TRYING TO KEEP WITH THE ORIGINAL INTEGRITY OF THE CJ6 ......MAKING MEASUREMENTS WHILE RECORDING THEM AND TAKING A FEW PICTURES IS VERY IMPORTANT!
MOST OF THE BODY IS HELD TOGETHER BY SPOT WELDS BUT THERE IS AN OCCASIONAL STITCH WELD IN A FEW AREA'S INCLUDING SOME SOME YOU CAN'T SEE.
AFTER SEVERAL HOURS OF REMOVING SPOT WELDS AND CUTTING AWAY LAYERED PANELS HERE IS THE DONOR 20" CJ6 EXTENSION.

Your right Posi , Albert is a good hand...........but he will not take pictures in fact he doesn't like me taking pictures with him in it. So in order to share the build with you folks I have to stop what I'm doing , drop the tools and engage the camera.

Looks like the time has finally come to start cutting up my old CJ-5...........Best I can tell from what I see is that Willys took standard CJ-5 side panels to build the CJ-6......they apparently had a large die or shear made that would shear the end of a standard side panel off...........it's very evident on the old CJ-6 body that I took apart as you can clearly see where the die break was as it left a sharp corner that only a shear or die would do. As you will see later the sides were basically the same shape but not exactly the same.........I opted to make both sides the same as there was also a difference in side to side measurements...........Beings these were basically "Hand Built" back in the day this is just what you get. I have seen this same difference duplicated in many other old auto's that I have helped restore. Although it's important to have a tape measurement handy sometimes trying to get one square is next to impossible........hence the reason I asked several members here to supply there measurements on there untouched CJ-6 Jeeps.........Thanks to all that participated in gathering those measurements for me your help was greatly appreciated!

If you notice I covered my Chassis Jig with 3/4" plywood to allow a nice surface to cut these up and re-assemble
    [IMG]
Had to put my CJ back on the Rotisserie to get at some pesty spot welds from the bottom
    [IMG]
Here I am starting to make patterns off of the old CJ-6 Body
    [IMG]

And here we go..........the first cut on both side is the vertical cut in the wheel well area. The other cuts will come later.
Remember measure twice and cut once...........

He's brave running a cutoff disc without gloves. Although a disc goes through gloves almost as fast as it goes through skin. Don't ask me how I know. :)
