Will a dana 41 and early 19 spline 44 rear axle bearing retainer interchange? Trying to pull the hub off of a 41 and think the shaft came out about a inch, and Im wondering if I may have bent the retainer some. I have a 44 I can take the retainer from if so. I haven't gotten the hub off yet so im not sure, just trying to be ahead of the game. Thanks!

If it came out an inch it's something other than the retainer, I'm guessing someone put the bearing in backwards- Tonk was like that when we got him.

Ok, thanks. I was just wondering before I got it off. Man that hub is on there, im using a puller, heat, and a BFH, and no luck yet, will keep at it. Why in the world would jeep put the brake drums on before the hub, talk about a pain to change brakes.

On later ones they didn't- on my '55 44 the drums are on the outside of the hub & held in place with a couple of screws. I'd suggest swapping to the later style although after you get the darn things off once they're generally a lot easier the next time

That's what im planning to do. I stripped the pinion gear teeth off of my 44, so when I get these hubs off im going to put the brakes from the 44 onto the 41.
    Thanks again.

Why not replace the pinion gears in the 44 and put that in?

I would love to do that, but I have never installed ring and pinions before and see it is not for the first timer, and cant really afford the cost of having it done. I looked forever for a replacement 44 with no luck (with a good one anyway) so when I found this 41 I grabbed it.
