So I have an oil leak. It is coming for the intake/exhaust side of the block. I just replace the valve cover gasket today, and it is still leaking. I can hear something boiling on the exhaust, and there is oil drips on the side of the block. It only leaks when it is running, and there is a lot of smoke. It doesn't seem like left overs because it is still pouring out the same. It drips every 10 seconds, and I can see oil boiling where the manifold and the exhaust pipe meet. But the sound is coming from behind the intake. I don't know what could leak over there except for a head gasket. I haven't been losing coolant, but I just change the radiator because it feel off of its mounts, any help would be great, thanks

is the valve cover flat where the gasket goes? over tightening of the cover will distort the cover causing a leak.

Well the head gasket is below the intake/exhaust so rule that out. Like said (is the valve cover flat) over torquing will cause warping of the cover. You have to flatten out the bolt holes to match the outside edge surface.

These valve covers are notorious leakers. Likely you need to do a little body work on the flange to flatten it out. The cover will respond to more tightening by leaking more. The torque rating on the valve cover bolts is very low, like 40 INCH-lb. I use a nutdriver, or a palm ratchet to tighten them.

I would clean the engine well, do any cover straightening, and replace the valve cover gasket. My recipe: glue the gasket into the valve cover, then a light coat of black RTV or your other favorite rubbery sealant on the surface next to the head. Tighten gently and let the sealant dry.

That's assuming you have a valve cover leak ...
