This weekend, I removed the heater from the Jeep to start mapping out my new pedals...well, I had a buddy stop by and question everything that I thought I knew...

The plan was...remove the heater that's not going to be used....figure out the swinging pedals, figure how to install a P/S setup, and where I'm going to mount the dual M/C that I need to buy!

Well, he said that the M/C needs to be mounted above the frame rails...which I see most builds just have a homemade bracket welded to the frame to accomplish this..but, then he asked where the brake booster will go. My go to response when I don't know what the hell I'm talking about is silence. So, I did some research...I now understand the principle behind the booster but, would it be worth it? Does anyone have this type of setup? Would the 4 Cyl create enough vacuum pressure for a booster?

Some older CJ's and Jeep trucks had an aftermarket remote vacuum booster system. Worked from the 4 cylinder engines.

You never mentioned what year Jeep your working on......................if you removed the heater I assume your working on a 1960's vintage CJ-5? Swing pedals do go in that location as will as your master Cylinder and Booster......you can find some booster systems that can be remote mounted for a floor mounted Master but if your putting pedals in anyway you may as well just hang everything off the firewall.............Here is a few pictures that may help.
As far as Power steering...........there is a link in the build section that should help.

    Tarry,

I constantly forget to add that information. It is a 57 Cj-5 with the stock setup minus a fiberglass tub* I'll add that to my signature like a lot of guys do...that will make it easier to remember.

Thanks for the information, and the pictures! That is exactly what I was looking for.

I've been hounding the Build forum looking for the right set up for the P/S setup...once I get a better idea there, I'll ask the "tough" questions. P/S box, pump, pitman, u joints....I'm a visual guy so, I will have to a lot of mocking up and then, I should be halfway home!
