I picked up a cj7 recessed filler neck at the junkyard today. I'd like to move it to the side of the jeep so I have more room to work with on the back for the tail lights. It looks like I can cut the tail end off the filler neck and the factory big honkin hose will fit. But the factory hose has the turn to go to the back molded into it. I'm sure someone has done this in the past so I'm hoping to get and idea about what hose will work for this swap. anyone?

Why not just cut the hose in the middle, put a sleeve in it, turn it 90 degrees and clamp it?

If there is enough straight section of the hose, just cut it into two equal parts, and insert a length of metal tubing in the middle. Copper pipe will work fine, and is easy to find.

Well yeah sure if you want to do it the easy way. :D
Ok thanks guys. I didn't even think of using the hose and cutting out the turn. I was actually at the junk yard looking for parts for my Jeep which got pounded by hail last week. I must be too distracted to think.

That's one heck of a reducer on there. What's it supposed to be on, or what is it's intended purpose? And it looks like the vent line is a factory line? And I see you got that in there without removing any of the factory structure. Nice. I was figuring I was going to have to remove some of that stuff to get the filler where I wanted it.

Well the reducer is because the filler neck itself is about 1" in diameter, yet the tube from the tank is 2". Big difference. I ordered the vent line as a factory replacement. As you can see I had to fab up everything else. That filler neck itself is an expensive piece, $55 :(

Yeah I was impressed that you found that drastic of a reducer. I paid five bucks for my filler neck. I'm trying to decide if I should go get the front knuckles and rotors and calipers off that same Jeep now.

I would if you can get them for cheap. Discs are a nice upgrade from what I hear. Drums all the way around on a trail are not much fun.

The reducer is actually a plumbing reducer. The only reason I used it is because it's sucked up so high on the neck that gas will never touch it. Otherwise I'm sure it would erode from the gas

Discs would be nice. It just depends on what I can get them for.
When I was thinking about trail upgrades that I wanted for my Jeep (the CJ is my girlfriends jeep) they included, fuel injection, hydraulic clutch, power steering....pretty soon I ended up with a TJ. :)

My 73 CJ5 already had the recessed filler installed by the PO so I don't know where he got the parts but this is how he did it. Not sure you can see it but he used a flex hose.

That looks like it turned out pretty well. Flex hose? Like radiator flex hose?
I keep dragging stuff home for this Jeep and then I never have time to get it all on there. I'd like to finish this one so I can move the tail lights.
