    Hiya,

Like most, the hubs on my tapered axles seemed to be really locked in there and aren't responding to my efforts to remove them without the proper puller, which I haven't been able to locate locally or at price that won't break the budget.

Since I am going to a full floater setup, I have no need to ever do this again (on this Jeep), or to reuse the axles or hubs. So, I was sitting here 30 miles away from my jeep and pondering the situation (as I often do when I should be pondering work issues) and was wondering if I could just unbolt the backing plate and pull the whole shebang out as a unit.

Sorry if this is a silly question, I'm not real aware of how all these pieces fit together as I've never dove in there before, just trying to think outside the box to solve this problem.

    Thanks,

    Bob

I had to take the hole shebang out of mine to and carry it to a friends house with a really good puller and big torch tanks , we bent one hub in the process good luck.

The puller is only about $50 from JC whitney and it's usefull for a million other tasks. I don't even have tapered axles any more and it's still one of my most used tools.

Yup, that's the one I have too from JC Whitney.

Used it on the TJ hubs this fall, hubs on the Willys truck too. Didn't buy it until I had the truck though.

Well, here's my plan: Pull the suckers out as a unit, give em to Joel, and let him worry about it. :D :D :D

I completely understand $50 for a useful tool - but I have way too many other expenses to deal with on this thing right now.

    Thanks guys!
