Wiper Conversion - split Window

Hey I realize that it has come up many times, I have read the other post - but has anyone done the conversion on a split window M38A1 style window? Where the split will keep the blades from hitting each other it does appear I have to stand mine off a lot further than other people have. I think I need at least 1.5 inches of spacer.

Just to see I did put in using the spacer from the vacuum wipers and it more or less fit. It was a bad angle though.

I read some people cut down the shaft but I am not even sure what that would be like. I think standing it off is the better option for me.

Anyone else done it? And happen to have some pictures?

    Sorry, I'm not following here-

I would think that the main thing with a split window would be either limiting the sweep angle (90 or 120 degrees) or the arm/blade length to prevent the blades from hitting the center rubber strip- not sure how how far the shaft sticks out would affect the equation.

Or am I totally miss-interpreting what you mean?

I'm with Howard on this one.... you loose me talking about a spacer? Changing the motor shaft stick-out to the wiper arm has little to no effect on where the end of the wiper blade will be at the end of it's travel. If the wiper blade is hitting the split window separator, then you will have to shorten the wiper arm or the blade. That is the way I see it if you are using the original wiper motor location above the windshield glass.

You are. On the normal window the wipers get out of sync and hit each other - I don't have to worry about that because the split window has the wipers further apart to stop them hitting the dividing frame, so they can be completely out of time and it does not matter

But, you are both missing the point, I am NOT worried about them hitting in the middle. I was saying that is a plus - what I am asking about is, if anyone has pics that has done the conversion on a split because it is different from the normal frame. It is the same general idea, I just want to see how far they spaced the motor, ect. I did notice that technically the actual spacers that belong would have worked if the motor had two mounting holes, but it only has one.

I can work it out either way, was just wanting to see how others have done it. I know we have a lot of members with M38A1's so I guessed someone must have done it

It doesn't matter it you have the split glass or the full glass. The motors fits in the same spot, under the stand offs. The wiper motors need to be mounted flush with the sheet metal. No spacer. The shaft must be cut down because it is after all, a universal wiper motor.

Ok, it is not possible to mount it flush on mine Scott, there is not a big enough gap. That is one of the differences between the split and the full, the split glass has a smaller area where the motor can fit into.

But, I spoke with Matt at Kaiser Willy and he said that using the inch space block will work, pretty much the same as the non-export models so I will try that. I will let yall know how it works

Here is my M38A1 window frame.
It used to be a split window until I replaced it with a full glass.

Oh, right - I get it now Scott, you removed all the old vacuum stuff. I will try that and see if mine fits the same, looking at your picture it sure seems that it will

My M38a1 has the same wiper set-up. Two separate motors and two toggle switches. I can turn on the drivers side only just to tease my wife... I don't see any need for a spacer of any kind
