The P.O. of my '70 jeep CJ5 decided, I think after a few beers that the solution to his radiator clearance problem was to get the torch out. he cut down the front of the front cross member but did not reinforce anything. So I need to box it back in while I am doing my other frame repairs. My plan is to use either 3" X 1-3/8 X 3/16 steel channel or 3" X 1.5" X 3/16 Structural steel tube. I have to make the box lower than the original cross member to make clearance for the almost new 3 row aluminum radiator that he put in. It is paid for so that is what I am going to use. I plan on welding the channel or tube completely across the front and welding the rear of the tube or channel to the rear wall of the crossmember that is still there. I then plan on boxing the rear wall to the tube or channel below it. I will also box it on the ends so it is completely enclosed. Has anyone else ever dealt with something like this? Is there a better solution?
Thanks for the Advice ahead of time.

Wow first let me apologize for the bad spelling on the title. Second, rsbad454 how did you post the picture? I picked the link to post an image and copied the image address from photobucket but I can't seem to get it done.

Tell you the truth you don't need to fix it for strength. But for looks so just about anyway you can weld in there and make things look nice works.

I did not realize it was not doing much along the top until I have to cut one out of my old frame

Thanks Bob, Sometimes I have the ability to over think things too much. I will box it in so it is functional and strong but make it look nice since i don't have to worry about it being original. Either way it will probably be stronger than original. I will post pictures as I go. I need to start a build thread....
