Renegade vs Base

Is there anyway to tell a renegade from a base model for 75? When I got mine, I was assuming it was base. But I see alot of other 75's missing things like the volts and oil pressure gauge. Mine also seems to have factory power wipers, which struck me as odd. I think it also had a power windshield sprayer.

 

Only in some cases. If it has the Renegade color code, it's likely a Renegade. However, by '75 the Renegade was available with any color, including special Renegade colors. And most of the Renegade options were available from the regular option list. So you could outfit a regular Jeep the same as a Renegade, and today you would not be able to tell it apart from a Renegade if the stripes and wheels were gone. Back in the day, my '73 had all the Renegade options except for the stripes, hubs(?) and roll bar. Hubs and roll bar were added at the dealership. The roll bar and locking hubs became a factory option in '74.

They all have 2-speed wipers and a washer standard. Volt/OP gauges were optional.

A base model had no passenger seat, no skid plate, the 232, and tiny D78-15 street tires. The option list was extensive, and all cars were optioned to some degree.

 

This does have the skid plate. Not that any of this really matters. Thanks for the info.

 

The transmission skid plate was standard, IIRC. The gas tank skid plate was optional before 1976.

 

It's got the gas tank skid. Sounds like I have an optioned XJ5.

Somebody dropped a CJ7 tub on it, so I doubt it. There's a sticker on the dash, but I'm not sure if that is the correct vin.

 

Try to match that dash vin with the frame number on top of the passenger frame rail.
That dash VIN may be all you have left to identify that vehicle
