VIN Locations

Where can I find vin's on a mid 70's Jeep CJ5? I read somewhere that it's on the frame on the passenger rear wheel well. How can you get to that to check it.

 

I know on a 79 , it is on the pass. rear frame where you said. I think 75 and early are on the pass. side up by the front shock mount.

 

The proper metal vin tag should have been on the firewall near the brake master cylinder. Yours seems to be absent from your later tub.
I looked on my '74 for any kind of numbers by the passenger front shock mount area and found the serial number, not the whole VIN,on my frame forward of the shock mount.
It should match the first two and last five(seq.#) of the VIN.

 

I am looking for the Vin on the frame as well on my Sept 1971 cj5, where would one look for that, one. I have looked by the rear passenger top of frame and there is nothing there

I did not see mine on my frame until I stripped the frame. It looks like it was stamped using hand stamps individually. They are not in a good line and the spacing is not even.

Yep

You can imagine some factory worker with a tray of number stamps, hitting the number into each frame with a ball-pein hammer. Not a fun job.
