I don't know how you would set up a neutral safety switch, but a clutch safety switch would be fairly straight forward to design & install.

Just get in the habit of pushing in the clutch and checking to make sure it is in Neutral before starting. Actually, you should ALWAYS check to make sure it is in neutral. My Rubicon got me in the habit of pushing in the clutch.

I have been driving Jeeps since I learned to drive in a 2A about 58 years ago and see no need for a neutral safety switch in a Jeep. If fact, there were at least two occassions were that would have been a pain in the butt-when components in the stock clutch linkage went south but being able to start it in gear got me home-with more than a little double clutching without a clutch so to speak.

There is a place for those switches in tractors where you have mutiple opportunities to leave something in gear with multiple transmissions.

Glad you or your Willys were not damaged, close calls are the best wake up call.

I have had to use the starter to move vehicles in gear when out of gas or otherwise. Neutral safety switch makes that tuff.

I've never seen a neutral safety switch on a manual transmission, only a clutch safety switch. Doesn't mean there isn't such a device (though I doubt it) but I'm not sure exactly how one could easily be installed.

Just depress the clutch pedal and grab the shifter and check that it's in neutral.

Takes a second and avoids an annoying switch or buzzer.

It should be pretty easy if you wanted to add one to the clutch pedal, but it wouldnt be nuetral. Figure out a way to mount a push switch in the path of the clutch pedal when fully depressed. Wire the wire from the ignition switch to this push button, then the output of the new switch to the starter solenoid or starter.

It's all these frigging idiot interlocks that are making us all into idiots. You don't turn the key without your foot on the clutch. Period.

I've been told stories from a contractor friend about seeing customers run themselves over because their Mercedes auto set the parking brake, and they forgot (to set it) when they drove a different car...

Think of the safety feature. Especially if you have kids. They dont know to put foot on clutch. They hit the key it moves. Then think if this happens if another child is in front. It maybe bad, but does have a purpose. You may hold clutch in everytime.... but not everyone does.

It is pretty easy to tell when a T90 is in Neutral. That said it can't hurt to add a clutch safety switch, I think I would also have an inline toggle switch to bypass it, even if I had it under the hood. Simplest fix though is to push the clutch in even if you don't have a switch on it. I start mine quite often though while standing on the floor.

Don't leave the keys where the kids can grab them. Problem solved.
